The Dalles City Council approved a rate increase of just under 2 percent for The Dalles Disposal on Monday night.  The 1.9% increase was requested by the company to cover increased operational costs and tip fees.  The Dalles Disposal site manager Jim Winterbottom told the council that diesel fuel prices have gone up over the last several years, and the cost of other maintenance items- especially the cost of tires- has also risen.  In addition, he told the Council that the Wasco County Landfill anticipates increasing its gate rate and the pass-through Household Hazardous Waste tax by a total of 1.9% effective January 1.  Under the new rate, the monthly charge for a 30-gallon container will go up 31 cents, from $15.56 per month to $15.87.  In other business, the Council adopted an updated Wastewater Facility Capital Improvement Plan that includes treatment plant modifications that will improve the plant's visual aesthetics.  The Council also set a public hearing on January 14 to receive testimony on possible wastewater rate adjustments, and may hold a Public Hearing on January 28 to receive testimony on potential changes to wastewater system development charges.
