Walden Sees Opportunity With Leadership Selections
Three of top five House GOP positions fill by West Coast representatives.
Oregon Second District Congressman Greg Walden sees a window of opportunity for Western states to advance their issues with a number of legislators from the West moving into leadership positions. Walden has been tabbed as Chair of the National Republican Congressional Committee, while Cathy McMorris Rodgers from Washington will be conference chair and California's Kevin McCarthy will be the Republican whip. That gives the West Coast three of the top five leadership posts among House Republicans, and Walden thinks that bodes well for regional issues. Walden also said it will be advantageous to have both Washington Republican Representative Doc Hastings and Oregon Democrat Senator Ron Wyden to be chairs of committees that oversee natural resource issues.
